Instagram banned in China - www.thechinamagazine.com

The worst unrest in Hong Kong since 199hong kong riots7 is nothing that China wants to be spread online so now also Instagram gets blocked.
The service thus joins other blocked media services like Facebook and Twitter.

The weekend has brought heavy protests in Hong Kong. All as a result of a decision taken by the Chinese government last month that a commission must approve the candidates for 2017 elections about who will become Hong Kong’s supreme leader. It thus gives China veto in the matter.

This weekend’s riots are described as the worst since the former British colony was returned to China in 1997. Police repeatedly fired tear gas against thousands of people, and 78 people were arrested. The demonstrations, which also closed several finance houses, lowered the Hong Kong Stock Exchange by 2 percent and pushed the Hong Kong dollar to the instagram blocked in china lowest level against the dollar in six months.
